BEDFORD — The Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell High School baseball programs will again take the field for a cause, hosting the 12th annual BNL Stars vs. Cancer game on Friday, May 8, 2026, at BNL Stars Field.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. The annual event brings the rival programs together in support of local cancer patients, with all proceeds benefiting Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services (LCCPS).
Organizers said the teams are working toward a fundraising goal of $6,000 this year. Community members are encouraged to contribute by becoming sponsors, purchasing commemorative ribbons, or making direct donations.
More than a fundraiser, the evening serves as a tribute to those impacted by cancer. Cancer survivors, current patients, caregivers, and family members are especially invited to attend and be recognized during the pregame ceremonies.
This year’s event will focus on colon cancer awareness in memory of former BNL and Mitchell volleyball coach Scott Saunders.
Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple levels. Banner sponsorships range from $50 to $300 and above, with the names of businesses or families displayed on a banner featured at the game and throughout future seasons. Higher-level sponsors will also be recognized during the game.
An “In Memory of/In Honor of” ribbon sponsorship is also available for $50, allowing individuals to honor loved ones on the banner with a personalized cancer awareness ribbon.
To participate, individuals must complete a sponsorship form and submit payment payable to Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services or LCCPS. Donations can also be sent via Venmo to “BNL-RBI Club.” Forms and payments should be mailed or delivered to Jacey Chastain, 2437 Lucy Lane, Bedford, IN 47421.
All sponsorships and donations must be received by Friday, May 1, 2026.
Organizers said the continued support of the community plays a vital role in helping local cancer patients and their families, making the annual game both a competitive matchup and a meaningful night of unity.
