Loogootee completes sweep of Stars

LOOGOOTEE – Loogootee pulled out a three-set battle at No.2 doubles to complete a 5-0 sweep of Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school tennis action on Tuesday.

The Lions battled back in the marathon match as Josie Mathias and Marley McAtee rebounded to post a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Claire Edwards and Bailey Fisher to close out the victory.

“I was proud of our No.2 doubles,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “They fought hard through three sets with a tough opponent. They really looked like a team tonight – communicating well and being aggressive at the net.”

In singles, Macy Knepp stopped Emma Conover 6-1, 6-4 at No.1, Lydia Hawkins handled Jada Key 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Sophia Toy topped Forum Patel (in her varsity singles debut) by a 6-0, 6-0 count at No.3.

At No.1 doubles, Cora Consley and Kamila Wilson conquered Emma Voris and Elizabeth Miskuf 6-2, 6-1.

“The rest of the girls struggled with footwork and seemed sluggish,” Edwards said. “It showed on the court. As a team we are still killing ourselves with the unforced errors. All we can do is move on to the next match, and hopefully we will continue to improve.”

BNL (0-7) will host Jennings County on Thursday.
