
BEDFORD – Bloomington South fought off a spirited second-set rally to complete a 5-0 sweep of Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school tennis action on Tuesday.
The Panthers finished the triumph by surviving a fierce comeback at No.2 doubles. BNL’s Claire Edwards and Bailey Fisher, a new combination, won five straight games before finally falling 6-0, 7-5 to South’s Nia Johnson and Stella Ham.
South also had to work at No.1 doubles as Mira Koduri and Clara Tweedie stopped Emma Voris and Elizabeth Miskuf 6-2, 6-2.
“I am so proud of our doubles teams,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “Both teams fought for every single point. Our No.2 doubles team came back in the second set, they never gave up. They played really well together.”
In singles, South’s Carla Demeter topped Emma Conover 6-1, 6-0 at No.1, Drake Dykstra downed Jada Key 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Hannah Vandeventer defeated Abi Bruner 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.
The Stars (0-5) will visit Linton on Thursday.
