BEDFORD — In-person early voting for the May 5 primary election officially launched today, April 7, across Indiana. In Lawrence County, local officials are ready for the influx of voters, though they are urging residents who recently registered to double-check their details.

Lawrence County Clerk Amy Voorhies provided an update during Tuesday morning’s commissioners’ meeting, noting that while registration interest was high on the final deadline yesterday, some applications arrived incomplete.

According to Voorhies, several residents visited her office on Monday to register or update their status. However, a portion of those filings contained missing or incorrect information. Because the Clerk’s office cannot process incomplete documents, those individuals may not yet be cleared to vote.
“Those who registered to vote yesterday need to visit IndianaVoters.com to check their registration,” Voorhies stated.
Voters can use the state portal to ensure their name, address, and ID information are correctly recorded before heading to a polling site.
Early Voting Schedule and Locations
Early voting is currently open to all registered Lawrence County voters.
- Where: Lawrence County Courthouse Plaza at 918 16th Street in Bedford.
- When: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Requirements: Voters must present a valid Indiana or U.S. government-issued photo ID.
For residents unable to visit a polling site in person, other options are available, though strict deadlines apply:
Beginning April 16, the Traveling Board will visit voters who are confined due to illness or injury. To request a visit, voters must contact the Clerk’s office directly.
The deadline to request an Absentee Ballot is April 23. These applications can be submitted online at IndianaVoters.com or via a paper form sent to the election office.
While Voorhies confirmed that standard volunteer positions for the polls have been filled, the county is still looking for a backup pool of residents. These individuals would serve as “on-call” workers to fill in during last-minute emergencies or call-ins on Election Day.
