INDIANA — Hoosiers facing a busy Monday have one critical task to add to their to-do list: voter registration. Today, April 6, 2026, serves as the final deadline to register to vote or update existing registration details ahead of the May 5 primary election.

With several high-stakes federal, state, and local nominations on the ballot, election officials are urging residents to ensure their voices are heard by verifying their status before the midnight cutoff.
How to Register Before the Deadline
Eligible citizens can complete their registration entirely online or in person before the end of the business day.
- Online: Visit IndianaVoters.com. Online applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET tonight.
- In Person: Visit your local county voter registration office or the Indiana Election Division during standard business hours.
- Requirements: You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by the November 3 general election, and have lived in your precinct for at least 30 days.
Early Voting Starts Tomorrow
For those already registered, the wait to head to the polls is nearly over. Early in-person voting begins tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, across all 92 Indiana counties. You can cast your ballot in Lawrence County at Courthouse Plaza.
Early voting allows residents to cast their ballots ahead of the May 5 Primary Day at designated locations, such as county courthouses or specialized vote centers. Because this is a primary, voters must request either a Democratic or a Republican ballot to select the candidates who will represent their party in the fall.
Voters can find a comprehensive list of early voting sites, check their sample ballot, and confirm their Election Day polling location by visiting the state’s portal at IndianaVoters.com.
If you have recently moved or changed your name, today is also the final day to update those details to ensure you are directed to the correct polling site.
