Communities nationwide organize peaceful day of action to defend Constitutional democracy

INDIANA – On Saturday, March 28, millions of Americans across the country will participate in one of the largest grassroots pro-democracy movements in history: the third No Kings event. No Kings is a nonpartisan, peaceful movement rooted in the belief that in America no one should have unchecked power or be above the law.

The phrase No Kings reflects a core American principle upon which the United States was founded: the rejection of a monarchy and absolute rule. No Kings is about preserving constitutional limits on power, the rule of law, and democratic accountability.

The movement brings together Democrats, Republicans, Independents, non-affiliated voters, labor groups, and faith leaders who share concerns of executive overreach and the erosion of democratic principles.

For a full list of participating cities and event details, please visit www.NoKings.org. Locally No Kings will meet on Saturday, March 28 on the Lawrence County Courthouse square from Noon until 2 p.m. At the Monroe County Courthouse from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. At 1 East Main Street in Bloomfield at Noon to 3:00 p.m. In Seymour from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at a private location. In Columbus from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Columbus City Hall. In Salem from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at a private location.

No Kings activists are driven by a commitment to protect the basic freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, such as Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, and Due Process, all of which appear to be under increasing threat. Other concerns people will be addressing on the 28th will be the illegal tariffs and the skyrocketing price increases caused by them, Federal Overreach, attempts to abolish or override Constitutional Amendments, the withholding of funds authorized by Congress etc.

Many Americans are also upset with the reversal of environmental protections, the reversal of bans on toxic, brain-damaging pesticides, and the repeal of the Clean Water Rule, allowing pollutants to be dumped in more waterways, which all appear to be putting big business and corporations before the citizens of this country.

“These are not partisan issues. These are American issues. And Americans are literally paying the price,” said Jessie Starr, a previous No Kings participant. “With this administration, everything has gone up. Groceries, gas, utilities, health care, everything, including unemployment and the national debt. All this while major cuts are being made to vital services, while hospitals are closing or short staffed, schools are underfunded, and families are struggling to survive. None of this is making America great.”

On Ash Wednesday, nearly 400 Christian leaders from a variety of denominations made a collective statement: “We are facing a cruel and oppressive government” “pushing us toward authoritarian and imperial rule” “We call on all Christians to join us in greater acts of courage to resist the injustices and anti-democratic danger sweeping across the nation. In moments like this, silence is not neutrality – it is an active choice to permit harm,” acalltochristians.org

For many Americans, this no longer feels like a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people, but more like the authoritarian rule once imposed by King George III: taxation without representation, where costs continue to rise while public benefits and services are cut, and the citizens do not seem to matter. This is why millions will be raising their voices in protest, united under a powerful message: We the People say, “No Kings!”

All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to peaceful, nonviolent protests and community safety.
