Health officials encourage residents to check measles vaccination before spring break travel

LAWRENCE COUNTY — Local health officials are encouraging residents to check their measles vaccination status ahead of spring break travel.

Measles can be a serious illness, and health officials recommend ensuring that individuals and children are protected through the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine before traveling.

Residents who want to verify their or their child’s vaccination status, or who may need a measles vaccine, can contact the health department at 812-275-3234, extension 2613. Health staff can review vaccination records and provide the vaccine if needed.

Officials say checking vaccination status before travel can help protect families and reduce the risk of measles exposure while away from home.
