SCOTTSBURG — Farmers and conservation enthusiasts looking to improve their soil health have a prime opportunity this spring. The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has announced it will host the Scott County Cover Crop Tour on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The event is designed to give participants a first-hand look at how various cover crop species are performing on local acreage. As interest in sustainable agriculture grows across Indiana, this tour offers a practical “boots-on-the-ground” perspective on managing soil erosion, improving nutrient cycling, and enhancing crop yields.

The tour kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet at the Scott County Saddle Club, located at the fairgrounds at 710 West Fairground Road, in Scottsburg.
To ensure a smooth experience for all attendees, shuttles will depart from the Saddle Club to visit various local farm sites. A meal will be provided for all registered participants following the tour.
The tour is more than just a site visit; it is a collaborative learning experience supported by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI). Experts and local hosts will be on-site to discuss the challenges and successes of their specific cover crop programs, providing valuable insights for those considering implementing similar practices on their own land.
Pre-registration is mandatory for this event to ensure adequate transportation and catering. The deadline to secure a spot is March 6, 2026.
