INDIANAPOLIS— The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra continues its 2025–26 season with a dynamic series of performances in late January, offering audiences a rich mix of sweeping Romantic-era masterpieces, inspiring youth performances, intimate chamber concerts, and the return of one of the most beloved film-with-live-orchestra experiences.
The week is anchored by a powerful orchestral program featuring music by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky (Jan. 23-24), showcasing the emotional depth and technical brilliance of the Romantic repertoire. Pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk joins the orchestra for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3—one of the most formidable and expressive works in the piano canon—followed by Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony, a dramatic and deeply lyrical work inspired by the poetry of Lord Byron.
In addition to its mainstage performances, the ISO continues its commitment to education and community engagement through the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO). MYO’s Winter Concert (Jan. 25) brings student musicians and their families to the stage for an afternoon celebrating growth, collaboration, and artistic achievement. The program includes the premiere of a newly commissioned work by MYO alumnus Alex McGrath, underscoring the long-term impact of music education and mentorship. The concert follows a pay-what-you-wish model, ensuring accessibility for all audiences.
The ISO’s Chamber Series further expands access to live classical music through free performances on local university campuses. Hosted by ISO Concertmaster Kevin Lin, these intimate concerts feature ISO musicians performing works by Mozart and Dvořák, offering audiences a close-up experience with chamber repertoire in welcoming academic settings.
Rounding out the month, the ISO invites audiences of all ages to rediscover the magic of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone™ in Concert (Jan. 30 – Feb.1). This film-with-live-orchestra experience pairs the original movie with a full live performance of John Williams’ iconic score, performed in sync with the film on the big screen. Presented by Bank of America, the concert marks the return of the Harry Potter™ Film Concert Series to Indianapolis and offers a unique opportunity for fans to experience the story that started it all in a new and immersive way.
Together, these performances reflect the ISO’s mission to inspire and unite the community through music—whether through monumental symphonic works, educational opportunities for young musicians, intimate chamber experiences, or shared moments of cinematic wonder.
