INDIANA – Hoosier drivers are seeing a sharp reversal at the pump this week as gas prices in Indiana surged by 17.3 cents per gallon. According to the latest GasBuddy survey of 3,271 stations, the statewide average now stands at $2.80 per gallon.

Despite the recent double-digit jump, long-term trends remain favorable for consumers. Current prices are unchanged compared to a month ago and are significantly lower—29.8 cents per gallon—than they were at this time last year.
The price of a gallon of gas continues to vary wildly across the state. GasBuddy reports a massive 85-cent spread between the state’s most expensive and least expensive stations:
- Lowest Price in Indiana: $2.34/g
- Highest Price in Indiana: $3.19/g

Neighboring areas are also feeling the upward pressure, though Indiana’s spike is particularly pronounced.
| City | Current Average | Weekly Change |
| Indianapolis | $2.78/g | Up 19.7¢ |
| Champaign, IL | $2.84/g | Up 8.3¢ |
| Cincinnati, OH | $2.65/g | Up 8.9¢ |
The national average price of gasoline followed a similar path, rising 3.1 cents per gallon over the last week to settle at $2.76/g. This increase snaps a seven-week streak of declining prices.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributes the shift to rising crude oil costs. “Oil prices have climbed back near $60 per barrel after dipping into the mid-$50s,” he noted. He also warned that the “window of opportunity” for ultra-low prices may soon close as the industry prepares for the spring transition to more expensive summer-blend gasoline.

While gasoline prices climbed, diesel drivers saw a slight reprieve. The national average for diesel decreased by 1.0 cent over the last week, currently standing at $3.465 per gallon.
Current prices remain well below the peaks seen in 2023, though they have rebounded from the pandemic-era lows of five years ago.
