SALEM – The Indiana State Police (ISP) are investigating the death of an inmate after he was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday afternoon.
Around 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Washington County Jail officials were alerted to an unresponsive inmate lying in his bunk. Correctional officers immediately provided first aid and requested an ambulance.
The inmate, identified as 61-year-old David Scott Elliott of Georgetown, Indiana, was rushed to Ascension St Vincent Hospital in Salem, where he was pronounced dead. Â
Washington County Sheriff, Brent Miller, requested ISP assistance, and Detective Travis Baker was assigned to investigate.
No foul play is suspected; however, the death remains under investigation. An Autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
The family of the deceased has been notified.
