BEDFORD — A local man was arrested in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 6, after a traffic stop led to allegations of impaired driving and the discovery of a wanted passenger.
Rory Case, 45, of Bedford, is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) with a prior conviction and OWI endangerment.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Sarah Haluda of the Bedford Police Department, the incident began around 3:10 a.m. near 5th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Officer Haluda reported observing a light-colored vehicle “rapidly cut across” Lincoln Avenue and perform multiple turns without signaling.
Upon stopping the vehicle on J Street, officers identified the driver as Case, who was reportedly “visibly shaking.” His passenger, identified as Brandi Lahrman, appeared extremely nervous and initially struggled to provide her own name to officers. She eventually admitted to having an active warrant out of Johnson County, which was later confirmed.
While speaking with Case, Officer Haluda noted that his pupils appeared abnormally constricted. Case reportedly admitted to having ADHD and taking Adderall, but police observed several indicators of impairment during Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. According to court documents, Case failed multiple portions of the tests.
The affidavit states that Case’s story regarding recent narcotic use shifted during the encounter. He initially denied recent use, then stated he had used methamphetamine a week and a half ago, then changed it to one week, and finally admitted it had been “a few days” since his last use.
Case reportedly declined a SoToxa oral fluid test, telling officers he believed he would fail it based on his recent use. However, he did consent to a certified blood draw, which was performed at IU Health Bedford Hospital. The results of that toxicology test are pending at the Indiana Department of Toxicology.
Because Case was previously convicted of an OWI in Lawrence County in August 2025, the new charges have been enhanced. Case and Lahrman were both transported to the Lawrence County Jail for housing. Case’s vehicle was impounded.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the probable cause affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
