Sign up for Monroe Lake’s Winter Wander Hikes for 2026 here

MONROE LAKE – The Wander Series offers off-trail hiking through lesser-known, backcountry, or normally off-limits areas around Monroe Lake. Wander Hikes are guided, but there is no pre-determined route. The naturalist sets the meeting location and picks a general direction to head toward – and then participants explore together. If you enjoy hiking with others, shared learning, and the freedom of “wandering without a destination,” this hike series may be a fit for you.

Hikers walk through the snowy woods at Monroe Lake during a 2025 Winter Wander Hike.

Hikes generally last about 2 hours but occasionally run over. Hikers should dress for the weather and be prepared for potentially rugged terrain. Registrants will be sent an email with driving directions to the exact meeting location and additional details at least one day prior.

All Winter Wander Hikes are free but limited to 20 people (recommended for ages 12 to adult). If a hike is full, make sure you sign up for the waiting list! Click here for registration
