IU Health Mobile Lung Screening Unit to offer free screenings in Orleans

PAOLI – The IU Health Mobile Lung Screening Unit will be available in Orange County this month, offering free lung cancer screenings to eligible residents at the Orleans Food Pantry. The screening event is being brought to the community through a partnership with Orange County Tobacco Free and Indiana University Health, expanding access to early detection services for those most at risk.

The mobile unit will be on site Thursday, Dec. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orleans Food Pantry, located at 422 S. 3rd Street in Orleans. Screenings are intended for adults between the ages of 50 and 77 who currently smoke or who have quit smoking within the last 15 years and have a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years.

Lung cancer screening is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, for individuals who meet eligibility requirements. The scan is quick, painless, and does not require needles, special diets, or changes to daily routines. Health officials emphasize that lung cancer often does not cause symptoms in its early stages, making screening a critical tool for early detection and improved outcomes.

Appointments are required for the screening. Individuals interested in scheduling a screening can contact the IU Health mobile lung screening team at 317-962-LUNG (5864) or by email at lungscreening@iuhealth.org. Additional information about lung cancer screening is available at iuhealth.org/lungscreening.

Community leaders encourage residents to share information about the screening opportunity with friends, family members, and neighbors who may qualify. Organizers thanked Orange County Tobacco Free and IU Health for bringing this potentially life-saving service directly to the local community.
