INDIANA — Hoosier motorists experienced a slight bump at the pump over the past week, even as the national average for gasoline continued its downward trend, hitting multi-year lows ahead of the Christmas holiday.
According to a GasBuddy survey of 3,271 stations in Indiana, the average price of regular gasoline has risen 4.6 cents per gallon in the last week, settling at $2.81 per gallon today.

Despite the recent weekly increase, prices remain significantly lower compared to recent history:
- Month-over-Month: Prices in Indiana are 21.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
- Year-over-Year: The current average is 7.2 cents per gallon lower than this time last year.
The price volatility across the state remains stark, with a wide gap between the lowest and highest prices:
- The cheapest station in Indiana was reported at $2.28/g, while the most expensive was $3.19/g, representing a 91.0 cent difference.
Nationally, the trend is one of continued relief. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 5.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.90 per gallon today.

“Gas prices continued to decline in most states last week, while some price cycling states saw temporary spikes to restore margins,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “With the national average falling further, we’re now at multi-year lows heading into Christmas.”
De Haan further noted the positive outlook: “Diesel prices are also easing, and in the cheapest cities, averages have dipped into the low-$2 range—with a few stations still offering gas under $2 per gallon. Barring any major disruptions, prices are likely to stay relatively low into the new year.”

The price fluctuations are evident even among Indiana’s neighbors:
