Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge kicks off holiday season with annual open house

SEYMOUR – The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and the Nature Book Store and Gift Shop are set to host their annual Holiday Open House this Friday and Saturday. Everyone is invited to the Refuge Visitor Center to enjoy the festivities and get a start on their holiday shopping.

The Open House will run both days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Shoppers can enjoy complimentary hot cider, homemade cookies, and popcorn while browsing.

The event offers a 10% discount on most merchandise, with a wide selection of unique, nature-inspired gifts, including:

  • Birding and nature books
  • Nature-inspired earrings and puzzles
  • Muscatatuck clothing

For children, the shop offers picture books about birds, animals, and nature, as well as animal hand- and finger-puppets.

The proceeds from the Holiday Open House help support the many programs the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society hosts for the community. It’s also an excellent time for visitors to learn how they can further support the society’s work by becoming members or volunteers.

After shopping, attendees are encouraged to take a hike along one of the refuge’s trails. The Sandhill Cranes are currently visible and audible as their spectacular fall migration has begun.
