BEDFORD – Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day publicly recognized his department’s detectives, officers, and the Prosecutor’s Office for their dedication that led to a conviction in the recent Fort Ritner murder case.

Sheriff Day offered his commendations during the Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday morning. “I want to thank the department’s detectives and the Prosecutor’s Office for their tireless work on the Fort Ritner murder and their hard work getting a conviction,” Sheriff Day stated.
The praise follows the successful prosecution of Casey Brown, who was found guilty on all charges by a jury on Monday after a four-day trial. The trial was presided over by Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline.
Brown was convicted of the death of 21-year-old Kobe Stancombe, as well as charges of attempted murder and criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon. Brown is scheduled to receive sentencing on December 9 at 9:00 a.m.
In addition to the operational update, Sheriff Day provided the Commissioners with the current inmate statistics for the Lawrence County Jail.
As of Tuesday morning, 73 inmates are being held at the facility: 56 male and 17 female, 13 Department of Corrections holds, three parole holds, and two Level 6 felons.
