Window opens for Indiana communities to apply for Tree City USA status

INDIANA — The application window is now open for communities and campuses to apply for the prestigious Tree City USA and Tree Campus designations from the Arbor Day Foundation.

Tree City USA is an annual national recognition program launched in 1976 that aims to raise awareness of the value of community trees, set foundational standards for communities of all sizes, and celebrate local improvement efforts. The status helps communities demonstrate and promote their commitment to creating a greener place to call home.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is encouraging communities to apply and join the more than 60 Indiana communities that have already achieved Tree City status.

Applications for both the Tree City USA and Tree Campus programs will be accepted until December 31. Interested municipalities and educational institutions can start their application process today.
