Kirkwood Avenue reopens to vehicle traffic and parking on November 12

BLOOMINGTON – Weather permitting, the City of Bloomington will reopen Kirkwood Avenue to vehicle traffic and parking on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, marking the conclusion of this year’s closure.

During the season, portions of Kirkwood Avenue were converted into pedestrian-friendly spaces for outdoor dining, walking, and local events. The following blocks will reopen to vehicles and regular parking on November 12:

  • 100 block
  • 400 and 500 blocks

The 300 block of East Kirkwood Avenue, which includes the Monroe County Public Library, reopened earlier on October 3. Regular traffic and parking operations will resume on all affected blocks beginning November 12.

To keep supporting downtown businesses as the season shifts, the City will again offer free parking on metered streets during select holiday weeks:

  • Thanksgiving Weekend: November 28–30, 2025
  • Week Before Christmas: December 18–24, 2025

These free parking periods make it easier for residents and visitors to shop local, dine downtown, and enjoy Bloomington’s holiday events.
