DNR provides free resources for hunters to process deer harvest at home

INDIANA The Department of Natural Resources is encouraging hunters this deer season to take meat processing into their own hands, offering a comprehensive set of free resources to guide them through the process.

Instead of relying on commercial processors, hunters can now access instructional videos and printable guides to learn how to prepare their harvest for consumption.

The DNR’s Deer Processing webpage features resources developed in partnership with the International Hunter Education Association and the National Deer Association. These tools cover every stage of preparation:

  • Instructional Videos: Detailed video guides walk hunters through the entire process, including steps for grinding and preserving the meat.
  • Printable PDF: A downloadable PDF provides step-by-step instructions for skinning and basic deer processing, making it easy to follow along in the field or at a processing station.

The initiative aims to help hunters maximize their successful season by converting their harvest directly into fresh, preserved meat. Hunters are advised to visit the DNR’s official website to access the Indiana DNR Deer Processing webpage.
