FRENCH LICK — French Lick Resort is significantly expanding its recreational offerings by restoring a century-old landmark and debuting a unique new short-format golf course. The developments, rooted in the resort’s rich history, aim to provide fresh experiences for guests while honoring the area’s past.
The resort’s landscape is currently undergoing a notable transformation, blending historical preservation with modern, leisure-focused amenities.
West Baden’s Billiard & Bowling Pavilion Revived
The Billiard & Bowling Pavilion at West Baden Springs Hotel is set to reopen to guests in Fall 2025, bringing a historic recreation hall back to life after sitting vacant for at least 50 years.

Originally opened on Christmas Day in 1917, the building will be restored to its initial purpose. The finished pavilion will feature a six-lane bowling alley and pool tables. Adding to the experience, a pizzeria and bar will be included, positioning the pavilion as an ideal late-night hangout for those staying at the West Baden Springs Hotel. The pavilion is located in the gardens along the back brick drive to the hotel.
New Short Course: The Sand Creek Course
Golfers at French Lick Resort now have a completely different way to enjoy the game with the introduction of The Sand Creek Course. This brand-new 9-hole short course is a nod to a similar course that existed on the resort grounds in the early 1900s.
Located behind the French Lick Springs Hotel and Casino, adjacent to the Valley Links Course, Sand Creek features holes ranging between 40 and 90 yards. Its compact design allows for a quick round —approximately 75 minutes —making it highly accessible for novice golfers, families, and social groups.
The short course is not without challenge, as it borrows miniature elements from the resort’s acclaimed championship courses, including the famous Pete Dye volcano bunkers and the challenging contours of the Donald Ross greens. To further enhance the laid-back, year-round experience, the resort plans to add music and lighting for late-night play in the near future.
