FERDINAND – The town of Ferdinand is set to unveil a stunning new feature for the 2025 holiday season: a towering, German-made Christmas Pyramid. Standing at 32 feet tall, the Weihnachtspyramide not only enhances the festive spirit but also proudly showcases the town’s deep German heritage.

The massive decoration is a creation of Erzgebirgische Holzkunst of Germany and marks only the fourth outdoor pyramid of its kind built in the U.S. by the renowned German firm.
The Christmas Pyramid, known in Germany for its rotating scenes of Christmas and everyday life, has its roots in the Erzgebirge region. Ferdinand’s new four-tiered structure, mounted atop a gazebo, will feature traditional, German-carved figures, including the Nativity scene and trumpeting angels.
However, it will also incorporate historical figures unique to Ferdinand, serving as a festive tribute to the town’s past.
It will stand on a raised knoll of land north of the Historic Wollenmann Home on Main Street and will be on display for the community and visitors from November 2 through January 2.
To enrich the experience, a QR code will be available near the pyramid, providing an audio presentation that tells the fascinating story of Ferdinand’s founding. The town was established in 1840 by a Croatian missionary priest who sought to create a German Catholic community in the primeval forests of Southern Indiana.

The new pyramid will serve as a major attraction during Ferdinand’s beloved 28th annual Christkindlmarkt, which takes place on November 15-16.
The market is a major regional draw, featuring over 200 booths spread across six locations throughout the town. For market attendees that weekend, the free shuttle service connecting the market sites will include a stop at the pyramid, located at 1150 Main Street.
