Bedford’s Nathan Watson selected for prestigious Indiana Leadership Forum

BEDFORD — Nathan Watson, director of the Bedford Public Library and a respected civic leader, has been selected to join the prestigious Indiana Leadership Forum (ILF), a statewide program that prepares rising Indiana leaders for greater civic involvement and public service.

Founded in 1993, the Indiana Leadership Forum is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to developing Indiana’s most promising business and community leaders who value free enterprise and limited government. Over the past three decades, the ILF has built a reputation for shaping influential figures in public life and strengthening leadership across Indiana’s private and public sectors.

Watson’s selection places him among an accomplished network of alumni and marks him as only the fourth person from Lawrence County to participate in the program. Previous local participants include Scott Callahan (1995), J.J. Harris (2004), and Jamie Medlock (2014).

“Being selected into the Indiana Leadership Forum is a great honor,” Watson said. “I am grateful to my local mentors who encouraged me to apply. Without their guidance, I would not have this opportunity. ILF will be a great opportunity to learn from our state officials and other leaders in public service. I look forward to bringing those skills back to my community, better suited to be an agent of change.”

As director of the Bedford Public Library, Watson has led initiatives to advance local business, education, and civic engagement, including the Library’s Camp INfluence program, which encourages young people to learn more about government and leadership in their community.

Watson’s civic involvement extends beyond the library. He currently serves as assistant treasurer of the Indiana Library Federation, president of Bedford Revitalization Inc., and secretary of Bedford Lodge #14 F&A.M. He is a past president of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce Board and has served on several community boards, including Stonegate Arts and Education, SOAR, and the Community Advisory Board for WFIU/WTIU.

A recipient of Bedford’s inaugural 4 Under 40 Award, Watson is known for his dedication to bettering Bedford’s future. He lives in Bedford with his wife, Martha, and their son, Oscar, where they attend Mount Pleasant Christian Church.
