Fall fun: Sping Mill State Park will host ‘Autumn Harvest Days’ Oct. 4 & 5

MITCHELL — Spring Mill State Park is inviting the public to celebrate the changing season with a weekend of history, crafts, and festive activities at its “Autumn Harvest Days” event on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5.

The two-day celebration will feature a variety of entertainment for all ages, centered around the park’s historic Pioneer Village.

Saturday, October 4 Highlights

Saturday’s activities will focus on historical crafts and village life. Visitors can start the day by stopping by the toy table to play with pioneer toys all day at the lower residence. Other events include:

  • 10:15 a.m.: The Village Story at the lower residence lawn, offering insight into the history of the village and its residents.
  • 11:30 a.m.: Pie Eating Contest in the Upper Residence, with a chance to win one of three prizes.
  • 12:00 p.m.: Weave a Tree at the Weavers Cabin.
  • 1:30 p.m.: Make a fall leaf ornament (Upper Residence).
  • 2:30 p.m.: Learn to make cord while creating a fall-colored bracelet (Upper Residence).
  • 3:30 p.m.: Make a fall craft at the Leather shop.
  • 4:15 p.m.: Pick up a garden coloring book (Upper Residence).
  • Throughout the day, attendees can play Rabbit Rescue, ring toss, and try stilts outside the mill.
  • The Mill and Mercantile will close at 4:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 5 Activities

The celebration continues Sunday with more crafts and a non-denominational service. The toy table and pioneer toys will be available all day at the lower residence. Activities include:

  • 8:30 a.m.: Non-denominational Worship Service at the Meeting House.
  • 10:30 a.m.: Paint fall leaves on small trees using cotton swabs (Upper Residence).
  • 11:30 a.m.: Pick up a cardboard loom at the Weaver’s to take home and make a coaster.
  • 12:30 p.m.: Make a clay pumpkin (Upper Residence).
  • 2:30 p.m.: Spinning and Quilting Demo (Upper Residence).
  • 3:30 p.m.: Make a leather and bead bracelet.
  • 4:15 p.m.: Pick up a fall word search (Upper Residence).
  • Rabbit Rescue, ring toss, and stilts will also be available all day outside the mill.
  • The Mill and Mercantile will close at 4:30 p.m.
