Gainbridge Executive and Ball State Alumnus Dan Towriss to be Recognized Prior to Football Home Opener

(MUNCIE) – The football field at Ball State University’s Scheumann Stadium will have a new look this Saturday for the home opener against Fordham.

The field inside Scheumann Stadium will bear the Gainbridge logo in recognition of company executive and Ball State alumnus, Dan Towriss, ’94. The playing area will be known as Gainbridge Field at Scheumann Stadium.

Towriss provided a generous gift toward the construction of the Scheumann Family Indoor Practice Facility. Gainbridge is a member of Group 1001, an insurance holding company with $36 billion in combined managed assets and a mission to help investors grow and protect their savings.

“Ball State has a special place in my heart, and I couldn’t be prouder as an alumnus to be able to contribute to this important project for the football team and the rest of the varsity sports teams,” he said. “I’m beyond humbled to have my company’s logo etched on the Scheumann Stadium turf.”

The Scheumann Family Indoor Practice Facility is a $15 million project that was announced by the University in May. The 84,000 square-foot facility will feature a field-turf surface measuring 360′ x 160′ and regulation-sized competition field with a ceiling height of 65′. Retractable netting, batting cages. and storage also will provide the necessary amenities for teams to conduct training.

The facility will be conveniently located adjacent to the Fisher Football Training Complex on the current footprint of the grass practice fields.

The design and construction process is expected to take about 24 months with the opening slated for Summer 2021.

Towriss is among a handful of people who gave generously as part of a leadership gift to the indoor practice facility. The other gifts came from John (’71) and June Scheumann, Larry Owens (’66), Craig (’86) and Teneen Dobbs, and Ken (’69) and Peggy Briner.
