The Bedford Recreation Foundation has once again stepped up to support the community, presenting a $1,000 donation to the Knights of Columbus Council 1166 in Bedford. Joe Elliott, Golf Chairman, and Tom Elliott, President of the Foundation, presented the check to Greg Stanley, chairman of the Knights’ annual Tootsie Roll Drive.

The funds were raised during the Claude Akins Memorial Golf Tournament, an event that has become a cornerstone of the Foundation’s community giving. The donation will help supplement the Knights’ contribution from the Tootsie Roll Drive, which is now in its 48th year of serving local residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Proceeds from the drive benefit not only Lawrence County Special Olympics but also the Lawrence County Arc and special education students at North Lawrence Community Schools, Mitchell Community Schools, St. Vincent de Paul School, Lawrence County Independent Schools, and the Springville Community Academy.
The Bedford Recreation Foundation board members also include Misty Adams, Holly Davis, Jesse McKee, and Jimmy Jones, Jesse McKee. Although they were unable to attend the donation presentation, they expressed their gratitude to the community for supporting both the tournament and the causes it benefits.
