Indiana State Library to celebrate 200 years with bicentennial event

INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana State Library will celebrate its bicentennial with a special Lunch and Learn event on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will be held in the library’s History Reference Room and is part of the “Lunch and Learn Series”.

The celebration will begin with a presentation by Genealogy Supervisor Jamie Dunn on the history of the Indiana State Library. The library, which started in 1825 as a small reference collection for the Indiana Legislature, has grown over 200 years into a premier research library specializing in state history, government documents, family history, and more.

Following the presentation, the Indiana Historical Bureau will dedicate a new historical marker and host a reception to honor the library’s bicentennial. The new marker will commemorate the library’s growth and its impact on education, culture, and state government.

Seating for the in-person event is limited. Attendees can register online and will receive parking validation for the Senate Avenue garage. For those who cannot attend in person, a virtual option is available, though it will not include the marker dedication. The lunch and learn is eligible for 1 LEU.
