Knights of Columbus raise over $20,000 for local charities

BEDFORD The Knights of Columbus Council 1166 has raised over $20,000 to date during its 48th annual Tootsie Roll Drive. The funds will be used to support local children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization extended its gratitude to the numerous individuals, businesses, and groups that contributed to the effort.

The money collected from the 2025 drive will benefit several local organizations, including Lawrence County Special Olympics, the Lawrence County Arc, and special education students at North Lawrence Community Schools, Mitchell Community Schools, St. Vincent de Paul School, Lawrence County Independent Schools, and the Springville Community Academy.

The Knights of Columbus extended special thanks to Walmart, Rural King, Johnny Junxions, and Price Less IGA for allowing them to collect donations at their store entrances this past Friday and Saturday. They also expressed gratitude to the many volunteers from groups like Lawrence County Special Olympics, Bedford Rotary, Lawrence County Arc, Stone Belt, First Baptist Church, St. Vincent de Paul School, and Lawrence County Independent Schools.

The council will continue to accept donations for the 2025 drive. Another collection event is scheduled for November 1 at the intersection of Main Street and Teke Burton Drive in Mitchell.
