DUBOIS CO — A Dubois County judge has ruled in favor of the state, ordering property owners to permit surveyors onto their land for environmental studies related to the Mid-States Corridor Project. The decision, issued by Circuit Court Judge Nathan Verkamp on August 7, ends months of resistance from landowners that had previously caused delays and increased project costs.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) met all legal requirements for notice and access, clearing the way for contractors from the Lochmueller Group to begin Tier 2 studies. These studies, which include environmental assessments, archaeological digs, and mapping, will help determine the final route and design of the proposed roadway. Local law enforcement is authorized to assist surveyors if needed.

The project is a proposed highway connecting I-64 near Dale to I-69, generally following US 231. The preferred route, known as Alternative P, would bypass Huntingburg and Jasper to the east and Loogootee to the west.
