BEDFORD — The Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic returns this Saturday, 8/30, and Sunday, 8/31 at Otis Park with record-setting participation. A staggering 112 teams, totaling 672 players, are set to tee off in the six-person scramble format — the largest field in the tournament’s history.

The Bedford Recreation Foundation — the event’s organizing body — highlighted the outpouring of local support that has fueled this milestone turnout.

On behalf of the board, heartfelt thanks go to the businesses prominently displayed on the Patron Board pictured below. Your sponsorship is vital — this tournament simply could not happen without your generosity. A special thank-you is also extended to the dedicated “village” of volunteers whose behind-the-scenes work ensures that every tee, green, and concession runs smoothly.

Funds raised through the Classic support key local initiatives, including the Bedford Recreation Foundation Scholarship and the Akins Scholarship for graduates of Bedford North High School, as well as broader recreation and development efforts within the community.
Saturday’s and Sunday’s schedule promises a full day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and community spirit, continuing the legacy of the late actor and Bedford native Claude Akins. Play will be in both morning and afternoon waves, as in previous years, with over $30,000 in prizes at stake.
