HOUSTON — NASA is set to introduce its new class of astronaut candidates on Monday, September 22, during a live-streamed event at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The announcement ceremony, which begins at 12:30 p.m. EDT, comes after the agency evaluated more than 8,000 applications.

The selected candidates will undergo a rigorous two-year training program to become eligible for missions to low Earth orbit, the Moon, and eventually, Mars.
The announcement will be broadcast on multiple platforms, including NASA+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, NASA’s YouTube channel, and the agency’s X account.
Artemis II Mission Briefings
Following the astronaut class debut, NASA will host a series of briefings on Tuesday, September 23, and Wednesday, September 24, to provide updates on the Artemis II mission. This test flight, slated for no later than April 2026, will be the first crewed flight of the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft around the Moon.
The mission crew includes NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

These briefings will detail the mission’s objectives, which include verifying the systems and hardware needed for future deep space exploration. The events will be live-streamed on NASA’s YouTube channel and X account.
