BROWN CO. — A new Citizens Academy has been launched in Brown County, a collaborative effort between the Leadership Brown County group and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department to provide residents with an in-depth look into local law enforcement.

According to the partnership, the program aims to educate citizens on the inner workings of police work, the training and tools required for the career, and the services provided to inmates within the jail. The academy also seeks to highlight how the Sheriff’s Department extends its work beyond traditional law enforcement to serve the broader community.
The inaugural class, which began earlier this month at the Brown County Law Enforcement Center, is composed of local leaders serving as the first “citizen cadets.” The program is currently operating in a beta mode and is invitation-only. The goal for this first year is to gather feedback and utilize these established leaders as ambassadors for the collaborative program and the organizations involved.
The academy is free for those who are invited to apply and can commit to the entire program.
