MONROE CO. — Authorities are searching for a man who went missing in Monroe Lake on Sunday afternoon after he was reported to have gone under the water and never resurfaced.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), conservation officers were dispatched to the Allen Creek Boat Ramp area of Monroe Lake around 1:15 p.m. in response to a reported drowning.
Preliminary information from the Indiana DNR indicates that 27-year-old Keynner Lugo was on a pontoon boat when he entered the water. A short time later, he was reportedly heard calling for help before disappearing below the surface. Other boaters in the area attempted to help Lugo, but they were unsuccessful.
Authorities spent Sunday afternoon searching for the man using sonar equipment, but were unable to locate the man.
The search was suspended Sunday night and is expected to resume this morning.
