Mitchell Police Chief releases statement in Mitchell death investigation

MITCHELL— The Indiana State Police launched a death investigation after a woman was found deceased at a residence on Bartlett Drive. The investigation began after the Mitchell Police Department responded to a report of an “unfortunate passing” and determined the circumstances were “unusual and complex.

“On Tuesday, August 12, Mitchell Police received a report of the unfortunate passing of one of our residents. On arrival, the circumstances surrounding the call were determined to be unusual and complex to the point where the decision was made to contact the Indiana State Police for assistance in the investigation,” said Chief Troy Lobosky, “ISP Detectives and crime scene investigators promptly arrived, as did the Lawrence County Coroner and the Lawrence County Prosecutors’ Office. At the time of this posting, no charges are pending or foreseeable in this investigation.”

ISP was contacted at approximately 5:02 a.m., and detectives and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the scene.

No additional information, including the victim’s name or a possible cause of death, has been released. Further details are expected to be made public as the investigation progresses.
