Obituary: Melodee Ann Butler Charlesworth

March 6, 1953 – August 11, 2025

Melodee Ann Butler Charlesworth, 72, of Oolitic, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born on March 6, 1953, in Lawrence County, Melodee was the beloved daughter of Maxwell Butler and Matricia Ann (Keithley) Butler. A proud graduate of Oolitic High School (class of 1971) and Northwood Institute, she dedicated much of her professional life to Indiana University, where she retired after many years of service.

Melodee attended the Oolitic Pentecostal Church and was known for her sharp sense of humor, her warm laugh, and a love for travel that took her on many memorable adventures. She was always up for a good time and brought joy and energy wherever she went.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Maxwell Steven Butler; and her husband, H.R. Charlesworth.

She is lovingly remembered by her aunt, Mary Ellen Sowders; cousins Mary Beth Browning, Jim Sowders (Davena), and Susan Jones; and a host of extended family and friends whose lives she enriched with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Oolitic Pentecostal Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastors Marty Speer and Reggie Turner officiating. Melodee will be laid to rest at Bennett Cemetery in Avoca.

She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for the light and laughter she brought into the world.
