BLOOMINGTON – The Monroe County Democratic Party has announced a Vacancy Caucus to fill the position of Vice Chair, following Chrissie Geels’ election as Chair on July 20, 2025. Geels’ ascension to the top leadership role created the vacancy in her previous position.

The caucus will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., in the Bloomington City Council Chambers, located at 401 N Morton Street.
Only elected and appointed Precinct Committee Persons (Chairs) and Precinct Vice Committeepersons (Vice Chairs) serving on the Party’s Central Committee, who held their office before July 21, 2025, are eligible to vote in this caucus. The current Central Committee roster is locked for this specific election.
Candidates interested in running for the Vice Chair position must reside in Monroe County. In adherence to Indiana Democratic Party Rule 9, which stipulates that the chair and vice chair shall not be of the same gender identity, candidates must also meet this requirement.
Those wishing to run are required to notify Party Secretary Dr. Gloria Howell via email at secretary@monroedems.org by Thursday, August 14, at 1:30 PM ET. This deadline is exactly 72 hours before the caucus. Candidates must also provide a candidate statement with their notification.
It is important to note that no proxies are permitted for this caucus, as all eligible Central Committee members are expected to vote in person.
Any questions regarding the caucus can be directed to the newly elected Chair, Chrissie Geels, at chair@monroedems.org or by calling 812-361-2751.
