BEDFORD – With dangerously high temperatures gripping the region this week, the White River Humane Society is urging pet owners to take immediate precautions to protect their animals from the extreme heat. The organization emphasizes that pets rely on their owners for safety and comfort during such weather conditions.
The humane society strongly advises bringing all pets indoors if at all possible during the current heatwave. For animals that must remain outside, critical measures are necessary to ensure their well-being.

Owners should provide ample shade, cautioning against the use of plastic dog houses, which can trap heat and become dangerously hot. It is also crucial that pets have constant access to fresh, cool water to prevent dehydration.
Additionally, the White River Humane Society reminds the public to avoid walking pets on hot pavement. A simple test involves placing the back of one’s hand on the surface; if it’s too hot for human skin, it’s too hot for a pet’s paws. The organization urges everyone to be a voice and hero for their pets, asking, “Would you want to be stuck in this heat?”
