Adams County’s Sheriff Dan Mawhorr named Indiana Sheriff of the Year 2025

FRENCH LICK – Sheriff Dan Mawhorr of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has been honored with the prestigious title of Indiana Sheriff of the Year for 2025 by the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association (ISA). Sheriff Mawhorr accepted the esteemed award at the Association’s annual conference held last week in French Lick.

Expressing his gratitude, Sheriff Mawhorr stated, “I am so honored to be named as the Sheriff of the Year by my Peers. I take the Office of Sheriff seriously every day I wear this Badge. I believe that you, as a Sheriff, must support your employees of your office each day and THANK them for their sacrifices.”

He emphasized his philosophy on community engagement, adding, “Making the community part of the solution allows my office to Build Communities of Trust.” The 2025 ISA Annual Conference, where the award was presented, carried the theme “One Voice.”

The conference not only celebrated Sheriff Mawhorr’s leadership but also recognized numerous other members of the Indiana Sheriffs’ family for their exceptional sacrifice, dedication, and bravery.

Among those recognized, Deputy Mitchell Cantrol of Carroll County was named Deputy Sheriff of the Year. Additionally, Life-Saving Awards were presented to Deputy Justin Chambers, Sergeant Curtis Jones, Deputy Matthew O’Banion, and Captain Ryan Troyer, all from Grant County, for their heroic actions.

Sheriff Mawhorr’s recognition highlights the commitment to public service and community partnership that law enforcement exemplifies across Indiana.
