BEDFORD — Elizabeth Britt of Bedford, Indiana, was recently honored on the global stage for her leadership and contributions to Taekwondo. On July 12, she was named an Ambassador of Peace and Friendship by Dr. Kwak Young-Hoon, President of the United Nations Republic of Korea. The recognition took place during a nationally televised ceremony at City Hall in Seoul, South Korea, and celebrated her dedication to promoting the values of Taekwondo around the world.

As one of only four high-ranking women honored during the event, Britt was recognized for her role in perpetuating Taekwondo as more than a martial art, but a philosophy emphasizing spirit, dignity, and global unity. The ceremony emphasized the importance of guiding future generations through the teachings of Taekwondo, especially in an increasingly divided world.
Following the ambassador ceremony, Britt participated in the 2025 United Nations Korea World Peace Taekwondo Championship. The event was held at the Kukkiwon, the world headquarters of Taekwondo, and was organized by the World Taekwondo Federation and the United Nations Republic of Korea Association. Attendance was by invitation only, with participants from over 20 nations coming together to compete and share in the discipline, respect, and harmony central to the martial art.
“The goal of this international championship was to bring attention to the wars and conflicts happening around the world. Everyone we spoke to on the Metro, store clerks and hotel staff, knew all about the event. I was very proud to be honored by the United Nations and recognized for helping to create leaders for tomorrow!” said Elizabeth Britt.
Elizabeth Britt and her husband, Kenneth Britt, both represented the United States in the championship and earned gold medals for Team USA, further highlighting their skill and commitment to international peace and excellence in Taekwondo.

“I was honored to be invited to the United Nations Korea Association world championship. I felt privileged to be able to demonstrate years of skills and to be recognized for our sincere dedication in perpetuating taekwondo. It was a thrill to represent America and be able to earn a gold medal from achieving excellence with an outstanding performance. I am proud to have been able to participate in this initiative by the United Nations that brought attention to the need for peace.” Added Kenneth Britt.
