Monon South Trail Pitch Competition is your opportunity to present ideas, gain visibility, access business development resources

INDIANA – The first phase of the Monon South Trail, a significant development for southern Indiana, has officially been completed, opening 20 miles of trail across several communities including Borden, New Pekin, Salem, Saltillo, Campbellsburg, Orleans, and Mitchell. This milestone, achieved just 11 months after its groundbreaking, is set to enhance quality of life and spur economic growth in the region.

Radius Indiana, a key partner in the project, announced the opening of the final two sections in Campbellsburg and New Pekin on June 20.

An economic impact study by the Eppley Center for Parks and Public Lands projects annual spending of $34,000 to $111,000 per mile of trail, highlighting significant revenue opportunities for local businesses. To support this growth, Radius Indiana will host a Monon South Pitch Competition this fall, offering resources and funding to entrepreneurs with trailside business ideas.

The Monon South Trail Pitch Competition is your opportunity to present your idea, gain visibility, access business development resources, and compete for funding and support to launch your concept in one of the many vibrant towns along the trail.

The trail has already sparked local excitement, with communities organizing events like weekly walk/run/bike clubs and increased participation in local 5Ks. Beyond recreation and commerce, the trail is also fostering artistic initiatives, funded by READI 1.0 and Radius Indiana, with plans for plein air paintings and limestone sculptures at future trailheads.

Phase 1B of the trail, which will establish comprehensive trailheads in Borden, Campbellsburg, New Pekin, and Orleans with amenities such as bathrooms, charging stations, and misting stations, is currently underway and expected to be completed in Fall 2025.
