Vincennes woman arrested for suspected OWI after backing into fence

BEDFORD – A Vincennes woman was arrested Wednesday evening in Lawrence County on a preliminary charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) after allegedly backing into a fence and mailbox while impaired.

According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Lawrence County Police Department Officer Kenton Carter, Bobbi J. Garrison, 39, was taken into custody.

On July 2, 2025, at approximately 6:58 p.m., Officer Carter was dispatched to a citizen’s assist in the 300 block of Stove Road. While en route at 7:16 p.m., dispatch advised that the female involved, later identified as Bobbi Garrison, had attempted to leave, backed into a fence and mailbox, and was believed to be intoxicated.

Upon arrival, Officer Carter spoke with a witness, who provided a video showing Garrison backing into the fence. When Officer Carter talked to Garrison, he noted a strong odor of alcohol, poor manual dexterity, and slow, slurred speech.

Garrison was then transported to the Lawrence County Security Center to perform field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Following the tests, Garrison agreed to a preliminary breath test, which registered a blood alcohol content of .190. Based on the observations and test results, Garrison was arrested. She admitted to attempting to leave due to an earlier altercation and stated she had been drinking after arriving at the Stove Road address.

A certified breath test, conducted at 8:16 p.m., yielded a result of .160 blood alcohol content. Garrison was then remanded to the Lawrence County Security Center.

A Probable Cause Affidavit outlines the initial findings and allegations that led to an arrest. Criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
