INDIANA— General Motors (GM) has announced a recall of approximately 62,500 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD trucks from model years 2019-2024 due to a critical brake pressure sensor issue that poses a potential fire hazard.
The recall is due to a potential leak in the brake pressure sensor assembly. This leak is attributed to a supplier, Kodiak Controls, using unauthorized chemicals in the component’s rubber diaphragm. A brake fluid leak can create a fire risk, particularly when the vehicle is parked.

In response to the hazard, GM is advising owners of affected vehicles to park them outside and away from buildings until the necessary repairs can be completed.
While the issue is severe, Automotive Dive reports that GM has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this specific problem.
The recall’s scope is limited to the specified Silverado HD models. Trucks with different brake designs or those that use a silicone sealant to prevent brake fluid leaks are not included.
GM will inspect affected vehicles and replace the brake pressure switch wire harnesses free of charge for owners. The manufacturer is expected to provide further instructions regarding the inspection and repair process.
