SEYMOUR — A profound outpouring of community support has enveloped a southern Indiana family following a devastating farming accident on Monday, June 23, 2025, that claimed the lives of 4-year-old Maverick Lee Flinn and his great-grandmother, Nancy Ann “Nanny” Fox.
Maverick, described by his family as a bright and energetic boy, had wanted to ride in the combine with his great-grandfather that day. The tragedy occurred when, upon dismounting, an accident involving a farm tractor resulted in both Maverick’s and his great-grandmother’s deaths.

In the wake of the unimaginable loss, the Seymour community quickly mobilized to support the grieving family. Zach Flinn, Maverick’s uncle, shared with WTHR, that neighbors and friends brought an abundance of food and farming equipment. This overwhelming assistance enabled the family to complete a wheat harvest that would typically take 12 days in just 24 hours, thanks to the help received on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Maverick’s memory will also be honored through the creation of a playground. A GoFundMe established with an initial goal of $5,000 has already surpassed $50,000, a testament to the community’s generosity.
The Flinn family’s strong ties to the firefighting community are also evident, as Maverick’s father and grandfather are both firefighters. Indiana State Fire Marshal Steve Jones is expected to attend Maverick’s funeral on Monday, June 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.

To prevent future tragedies, the family is promoting what they call the “Maverick Minute,” encouraging farmers to take a full minute to inspect their surroundings before operating machinery.
Zach Flinn expressed the family’s deep sorrow and confirmed their commitment to continuing their work in Maverick’s honor, ensuring his spirit and lessons of safety live on.
