IDHS director to speak at professional development event

HAMMOND– The Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association (NWIIWA) will welcome Jennifer-Ruth Green, Indiana Secretary of Public Safety and Executive Director of the state’s Department of Homeland Security, as a guest speaker for a professional development breakfast event set for 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m. July 18 at the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority in Hammond.

Green will share practical, transformative strategies to help professionals lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Key takeaways for attendees include aligning strengths with responsibilities, cutting through distractions to remain focused, embracing mentorship, setting expectations for team members, and developing effective communication to foster trust and growth.

Green is a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate with experience as an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, combat mission commander, and combat counterintelligence officer. She served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and is a former CIO of a Fight Wing. She is an FAA-certified flight instructor.

In addition to her military service, Green founded Battle-Proven Leadership. This leadership training consultancy seeks to shape leaders who prioritize their people, ultimately fostering thriving teams, organizations, and leaders themselves. She was appointed Secretary of Public Safety and Executive Director of IDHS in January 2025 by Governor Mike Braun.
