BROWNSTOWN— Jackson County 4-H is inviting local students in grades 3–8 to sharpen their communication and presentation skills at the upcoming “Judging 101 Workshop” on Tuesday, June 25.
The interactive one-hour session will run from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the County Courthouse’s Old Court Room, located at 111 S Main St in Brownstown. Designed to ease nerves and build confidence, the workshop will teach youth how to interact with judges when turning in a project and how to present themselves during showmanship events.
Topics will include:
- How to talk to a judge
- Appropriate behavior during showmanship
- Common questions a judge may ask
- Building confidence for fashion revue and public speaking
Organizers encourage participants to register online through their 4-H Online profile at https://2025judging101workshop.4honline.com. Spots are limited to the first 20 registrants.

“Nervous? Don’t be!” the flyer reads, reassuring students that the workshop is meant to be a supportive and educational experience to prepare them for upcoming 4-H events and competitions.
Participants must register by June 20 to request interpreter services or accessibility accommodations by contacting Brier Ryver at (812) 358-6101 or bryver@purdue.edu.
The event is hosted by Jackson County 4-H in partnership with Purdue University Extension.
