SEYMOUR – Seymour police are investigating the death of a 65-year-old local man who was struck and killed by vehicles while walking on US 50 on the city’s far west side early Monday morning.
According to police reports, Ronald Pearson of Seymour was walking in the right eastbound lane of US 50 near County Road 600 East when he was initially struck by one motorist and then subsequently hit by a second vehicle.
The incident was reported to authorities at approximately 4:28 a.m.
Seymour Assistant Police Chief John Watson stated that investigators are working to determine why Pearson was walking in the roadway at that time. He noted that Pearson was dressed in dark clothing, and the eastbound motorist involved told police they did not see him.
An official with the Jackson County Coroner’s Office pronounced Pearson dead at the scene.
Assistant Chief Watson confirmed that both drivers involved consented to blood draws as part of the investigation; however, alcohol is not currently believed to be a contributing factor in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
