INDIANA – The American Red Cross is issuing an urgent call for blood donations this summer, particularly as the Atlantic hurricane season commences, to help prevent potential disruptions to the nation’s blood supply. Disasters and severe summer weather can significantly impact blood drives and the availability of lifesaving transfusions.

Blood has a shelf life of only 42 days, making continuous donations crucial to meet ongoing medical needs. Type O blood donors are especially encouraged to give as the summer progresses. The Red Cross highlights that June 14 is World Blood Donor Day, and June 19 is World Sickle Cell Day, inviting the public to celebrate these days by donating blood.
Incentives for Donors To encourage donations, individuals who come to give blood between June 1 and June 30, 2025, will receive a $15 Amazon.com Gift Card via email. Donors will also be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two $7,000 gift cards. Terms and conditions apply, which can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/June.
