BEDFORD – A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed by former Superintendent Dr. Thomas T. (Ty) Mungle against the North Lawrence Community School Corporation (NLCS), the North Lawrence Community School Board, and Dr. Wendy Miller.

The case, filed in Lawrence Superior Court, Cause No. 47C01-2404-CT-000546, was mediated on May 16, 2025, and a settlement has been reached with the North Lawrence Community School Corporation Board.
Detailed information on the settlement is not listed in court documents.
Dr. Mungle, who served as Superintendent of NLCS from July 25, 2019, through January 12, 2023, filed a complaint for damages and requested a jury trial on April 12, 2024. The lawsuit alleged breach of contract, defamation, and a violation of Indiana’s Blacklisting law.
According to the complaint, Dr. Mungle’s employment with NLCS was terminated on January 12, 2023, via a Separation Agreement and Mutual Release. The Separation Agreement reportedly included a provision stating that neither Dr. Mungle nor NLCS would “criticize, denigrate, or disparage each other.”
The lawsuit claimed that Dr. Miller, in her capacity as President of the NLCS Board, made disparaging remarks about Dr. Mungle. Specifically, the complaint cited a public board meeting on January 11, 2023, where Dr. Miller allegedly stated that there was a trust issue with Dr. Mungle, and he “was like a cancer and needed to be removed immediately.”
Further allegations included statements made by Dr. Miller at a May 11, 2023, public board meeting, agreeing with Board Member Scott King that terminating Dr. Mungle was the correct decision and that prior leadership had “targeted and mistreated Oolitic Middle School”. Dr. Miller also allegedly posted similar sentiments on her personal School Board Facebook page on the same date. The complaint stated that Dr. Miller was aware of the non-disparagement provision and “willfully and wantonly engaged in communication in violation of the Separation Agreement.”
