INDIANA – This week, a Madison, Indiana man was arrested in Jefferson County, Texas on two felony charges of stalking and misdemeanor charges of false informing and harassment following an investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives out of the Versailles Post.
The investigation began in October 2024 when Abel Martinez, 37, of Madison, Indiana, made allegations of human trafficking against a trooper with the Indiana State Police and a police officer with the Madison Police Department. He additionally accused a judge and other public officials of assisting in the human trafficking of his ex-wife and children.
During the thorough investigation, it was learned that there was no basis for the allegations. The investigation also determined that he had engaged in stalking and harassment of his ex-wife over the past three years.
The investigation was turned over to the Jefferson County, Indiana, Prosecutor’s Office, which resulted in Martinez being charged with two felony counts of stalking and misdemeanor counts of false informing and harassment.Â
A warrant for Abel Martinez was issued in March 2025. However, his whereabouts were unknown until this week, when he was arrested in Jefferson County, Texas. He will soon face extradition back to Jefferson County, Indiana, where he will have an initial court appearance.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
