ORLEANS – The Orleans Chamber of Commerce’s May “Breakfast Chat” last Thursday morning at Town Hall featured artist Adam Long, who shared updates on his impressive train-themed mural project. The mural, one of the largest in the Midwest, is being created on three grain bins at Springer Farms on the north end of Orleans and has already garnered over 300,000 views on social media.


While several corporate and community partners have contributed, additional donations are still needed to fund the project’s final phase. Those interested in contributing or learning more can contact the Orleans Chamber office at 812-865-9930.
Chamber Executive Director Robert Henderson provided a summary of recent successful events, including the Dogwood Festival and the return of the Silent Auction “fun-raiser”. Henderson also previewed upcoming Chamber activities, such as the 1st Annual Orleans Garden Tour set for June 14th, with tickets and details to be announced soon.
The 2025 Small Business Grant offered through the OC Economic Development Partnership is a significant opportunity for local small businesses. These funds can be used for various purposes, including building renovation and repair, signage and façade improvements, equipment and supplies, marketing, and website creation. Grant documents are available at www.ocedp.com, and the application deadline is fast approaching: May 30th.
Looking ahead, the local Chamber will host a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening ceremony on May 31st at 10 a.m. for the new Butterfly Lane Preschool, located at 370 N. Second Street.
The Orleans Homegrown Farmers Market has returned for the 2025 season, operating every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. through late October. The popular Food Truck Frenzy also continues downtown every Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m.
Work is progressing on the Orleans Monon South Trailhead, with a focus on the new restrooms and signage. The trail continues to see increased usage by both locals and visitors, with numbers expected to grow in the summer months.

Orleans will also play host to Orange County’s America 250 Kick Off in historic Congress Square on Saturday, June 14th (Flag Day). This event will feature costumed re-enactors, a flag-raising ceremony, informational booths, heritage activities, and special guests, marking the beginning of a yearlong observance leading up to America’s 250th Birthday in 2026. Residents and business owners are encouraged to decorate their homes in red, white, and blue, fly flags, and display bunting to join in the festivities.
